"When I Woke Up This Morning"

When I was a young boy, my mother used to sing a song that says, “I woke up this morning with my mind stayed on Jesus.” Back then, I didn’t understand the meaning of those words, but I do today.

It makes me wonder how many Christians woke up this morning with their minds on the Lord? How long did it take, after we rose this morning before we even thought about Him?

After He touched us early this morning, were our thoughts on Him? Did we offer praise and thanks to Him for giving us a new day, one that we had never seen before? Did we bring to Him an attitude of gratitude for His protection and how He keeps us from all hurt, harm and danger? Did we thank Him for keeping our minds, for food and shelter, for the activity of our limbs, and guiding us along the way?

If you answered yes to these questions, then good for you. If you did not, then shame on you! First on our morning agenda should be thoughts of His goodness toward us. Our hearts should be filled with thankfulness, adoration, praise and worship.

I make it a habit of going to Him every morning in prayer. Years ago, the words of my mother’s song didn’t mean much to me. But today, I am so grateful those words took root in my heart, and now I understand! Yes, I thank God that I woke up this morning with my mind stayed on Jesus. How about you?

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
