Dr. O. Wendell Davis, Pastor of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Huntsville, Alabama, was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, but spent his formative years in Gulfport, Mississippi. Just after high school, he entered the U.S. Army and spent three years in service to his country. At the age of 24, he committed his life to Christ and was called into the ministry one year later. In 1980, he began his pastoral ministry at Independent Missionary Baptist Church, Brooklyn, Mississippi. After serving six years, he was called in 1986 to pastor Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Gulfport, Mississippi. Led by the Holy Spirit, in 1989, Pastor Davis accepted the call to pastor the congregation of Union Chapel M. B. Church, Huntsville, Alabama, where, in its 88-year history, he is the third under-shepherd. He has served God’s people in ministry for over 40 years. Pastor Davis studied at William Carey College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Southern Baptist Sunday School Board, Calhoun Community College, Faulkner University, Liberty University and Alabama A & M. University prior to receiving his undergraduate degree from Athens State University. Continuing his education at Southern Christian University, (presently Amridge University) Montgomery, Alabama, he earned the Master of Science in Ministry, Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees, and is listed in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. Pastor Davis is an accomplished Bible scholar, influential teacher, public speaker, an avid lecturer, and preacher of God’s Word. He is affiliated with numerous religious and civic organizations and serves as Dean of Union Chapel Bible College. For over 20 years, he served as an instructor for National Baptist Congress of Christian Education and taught classes in the Alabama State Congress of Christian Education. Pastor Davis’ primary goals in ministry are evangelism, Christian education, and spiritual edification. To accomplish these goals, he established the Union Chapel Institute of Biblical Studies and one year later, instituted the weekly mid-day bible study. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Davis led the congregation in the acquisition of 150-acres of land to provide a holistic ministry that would meet the needs of the entire family. Pastor Davis spearheaded the development of 30-acres of the property to construct a new worship center, a fellowship and banquet facility, the Union Chapel Christian Academy (grades K-5 – 7th grade), the Child Development Center and a Family Life Center, which includes a gym and fitness facility for continuous family enrichment. Later, a playground area, baseball field, tennis and basketball courts, and church pavilion were built to accommodate outdoor fellowship. In his leisure, Pastor Davis enjoys walking, reading, and outdoor sports. He and his wife, Dora, are proud grandparents and parents of three sons. To God be the glory for the marvelous things He has done! |
